Introduced in 1989, the Mk1 MX-5 was an instant success with its low centre of gravity, light weight and rev happy engine. With a 1.6l engine from the Mazda 323 GT-X being the only option until 1994 when a 1.8l option was offered, adding more bottom end torque at a slight trade off of the will to rev. Little did Mazda know that their humble little 2 seater sports car would eventually climb to the ranks of the worlds best selling sports car.
